Advertising a Job Vacancy

To advertise a job vacancy on this website, please download and print the Recruitment Advertising System Guidelines file. This document provides step by step guidance to submit a job vacancy.

We strongly advise that all persons involved in the recruitment process are appropriately trained to do so. In 2009 we are planning to deliver a Safer Recruitment workshop that will focus on safeguarding guidelines throughout the recruitment process. To ensure that you can get best advice now, we recommend that you complete the on-line training from this link Safer Recruitment in Essex.

This has been provided by the National College of School Leadership. Please do not be deterred by the references to Schools and governors. The principles of recruitment are consistent across the Children's Service sector. The modules will take about 75 minutes to complete so you will require quality time to complete this.

Here are some key requirements to consider when you are completing the on-line form:

Salary : Please arrange to express your salary as an hourly rate and as an annual figure if you prefer to ensure that minimum wage guidelines are met. You may wish to compare your proposed vacancy to other similar roles we are advertising.

To view details of minimum rates and contact details please click on Minimum Wage

Job Description : Please give a brief, accurate outline of the duties that will be undertaken by the jobholder. If you do not have an existing job description as a template to work from, or need help with this section, please contact us.

Closing Date : Please give a date when you wish your vacancy to be closed. We suggest that this be a period of four to six weeks to ensure that this encourages a favourable response. If at any time you would like our advice or assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Public Telephone Number : The Recruitment Team often receive requests from individuals who want more information about a vacancy. For this reason we suggest that there should be a named contact and public telephone number that may be given to candidates.

Once you have submitted this form you will receive an email as confirmation. We do reserve the right to amend any vacancy to ensure that this is legally compliant. Where this is a fundamental alteration we will do this in negotiation with you, otherwise you will receive an acknowledgement that the ad has gone live on our website. We will place this onto the Jobcentre Plus website which can be viewed at www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk , include this in the schools’ jobs publication Jobscene and in our vacancy bulletin for the duration of the advert.

If you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Recruitment Team on 01245 445272 or 01245 512279. We have examples of interview questions and other materials available on request.
