Safer Recruitment: Tips
Safer Recruitment is about ensuring that people who work with children or vulnerable adults, or those that have access to information relating to their care or education, are suitable to do so.

It is also about discouraging unsuitable people from applying for these roles.  This is achieved very early on in the recruitment process, by giving clear indications regarding a Safer Recruitment Policy, including statements on job advertisements and application forms and checking procedures.

·          Are gaps in employment history explored at the interview stage?

·          Do you insist on using an application form and not accepting a C.V.?

·          Do you check all references before offering a potential candidate a job?

·          Do you check identity, to ensure the person attending the interview is actually who they claim to be?

·          Do you undertake CRB checks on all staff working with children or vulnerable adults?

Ensure the children, vulnerable adults and your staff are all kept safe!

Are your recruitment practices robust?

To ensure settings are up to date with safeguarding issues throughout the recruitment process it is recommended that everyone undertakes the CWDC’s online Safer Recruitment training.

Additionally, Early Years and Childcare have just launched a new course for Spring 2012 called Recruitment: Best Practice, which is aimed at all practiitioners and committee members involved in the recruitment process.  For more information please click here.
